Ideas for team tournament lists
« on: February 10, 2017, 06:51:09 PM »
So as Mike knows, this is a little different than in other events. It's not just who has the best list on an individual level, so I definitely want to hear others suggestions. Lists can be hideously vulnerable to one or two opposing lists and still be very good if they will dominate many other armies.

Question: What kind of army (Tank/Mech/Inf) do we double up on for this event?

Question: Offense vs defense: do we want to focus on auto-attack lists, have some or none? do we want an auto-defend list?

Here's a list of possible strong lists please feel free to add cause I know I'm missing some

Tank:
US Auto-Attack Tanks(various versions)
Panzers to the Meuse
Soviet Swarm(I don't know if this is possible as I don't think anyone has a shed load of Lees)
Churchill Gunline delivery system (not sure if anyone has lots of 5.5s and 25lbr)
Sitztigers(list is perfect at 1625)

Mech:
Taskforce A/TD company
Panzerspah
US Armored infantry?

Infantry:
Croc company in all but name(Rifle list with 6 Crocs)
78th Brit rifle with best support for Brit rifles
Gliders of doom(ish) not as good at this smaller point level
Brit Paras
Strelk
Japanese?

Like I said there's plenty more good lists out there, and how our lists pair with eachother is also important.

I've been toying around with mech lists, and, alas, 1625 is not a sweet spot for the AI. They can only get Chafees and M18s in support, which, I think, won't be resilient enough in this meta. Puma Lehr, on the other hand, works pretty well, with 3x Panthers, 5x Pz IV, and a fully tricked out Aufklarungs platoon (7x halftracks). Did you have a better Panzerspah list in mind?

I don't favor Puma Lehr. The recon costs too much(also no point in Pumalehr if you don't take the PzGrenLehr Plt)

Option 1: Uses my Regionals list as basis: Tiger IIs plus StuHs (aufklarungs pdf) Not 100% sure how to use the additional points for this list big q? is 6 or 8 plts.

Option 2: 21st PanzerSpah: HQ: 250/1, 2x 8rads, 2x 8rads, 2x 222 and 1x 223, 2x TigerII(porsche), 2x PzIV and Sherman and Firefly, 3x Pak40, 3x 15cm Neb, 3x 2cm AA(RT) 8platoons

Option 3: HG PzSpah Pak front: (Everything but tiger IIs gets reroll plt morale) HQ: 234/1, 2x 234/1, 2x 234/1, 6x 251/9(7.5cm), 3x Pak40, 3x Pak40, 2x Tiger II, 2x 15cm Neb, 2x 2cm AA

Option 4: Gepanzerte Aufklarungs to the Meuse: HQ: 2x SMG/PzFaust, 2x 250, Full Gepanzerte plt with tankhunter, 4x Panthers, 6x 251/9(7.5cm), 2x 234/1, 2x Puma, 3x 15cm Nebs

TaskForce A(CT): (Auto Attack, Everything but AI and Priests gets to spearhead)

Minimum Engineer plt;

Full CV Armored Infantry plt All .50cals on Halftracks

Other important note is that Wins are much more important than getting a 6-1, so vulnerable platoons aren't such a big deal

2nd Cav: CV Anti-tank list

Greyhound, 2 Jeeps
Greyhound, 2 Jeeps
4x M36(90mm)
4x 3" guns, 4x Bazookas, 4x Halftracks with .50cals(No TD rules, but can still ambush within 16")(Bazookas can become .50cal HMGs to absorb hits)
Full AI plt
3x Priests
AOP

TD Company: CV
HQ: 2x M20
4x Hellcat
4x Hellcat
2x Hellcat

4x Locusts (FA 1 Stuarts w wide tracks)
CV Guards Churchill plt: 1x Churchill VI, 1x Churchil VII, 1x Churchill IV(6lbr) Churchill VII is FA 13, others have FA 9
CV Guards Churchill plt: 1x Churchill VI, 1x Churchil VII, 1x Churchill IV(6lbr) Churchill VII is FA 13, others have FA 9

I can do German Infantry, or Panzers (HG StuG's from Eastern Front)
Soviet Guards Heavy Tanks (my winter painting challenge force),  I still have a core Strelkovy I can build up as well.
Or British Infantry
Look! We're not worried about the German army, we've got enough troubles of our own. To the right General Patton, to the left the British Army, to the rear our own goddamn artillery, and besides all that it's raining.

That's quite an impressive number of mech lists. I think the 2nd Cav looks promising. What about this:

2nd Cav (CV)
HQ: 2x Greyhounds
Recon: Greyhound, 2x Jeeps
Recon: Greyhound, 2x Jeeps
Cav Tank Platoon: 5x Chaffee
Corps TD Platoon: 4x M18
Towed TD Platoon: 4x 3" guns, 1x Bazooka
Armored Rifle Platoon: full

That's also very good. Priests and m36s and extra bazooka/.50cals vs 5 Chaffee. Hmm

A good anti-infantry list that I think could be a good reactionary list would the the mech infantry herman goeing list out of Fortress Italy
2x panzerfaust smg + halfttack

2x platoon of 6x mg infantry with panzerfaust smg and half tracks

2x platoon of 8-rads

2x platoon of 4 stuh 42s

1x platoon veteren nebs (just to get another platoon)

If I interpreted the rules correctly, this list could be good to pair against an infantry list put up by your opponent. Not only does if have 8 stuhs bit ever platoon but the nebs re-roll motivation tests.
Well, it's like this. I was on a hill as a battery commander with six anti-tank guns and the Americans kept sending tanks down this road. Every time they sent a tank, we knocked it out. Finally, we ran out of ammunition and the Americans didn't run out of tanks. And that's it in a nutshell.

Here's what I came up with for Panzers to the Meuse Aufklarungs:

GEPANZERTE AUFKLÄRUNGSSCHWADRON (2.)
HQ: 2x Panzerfaust SMG teams, 2x Sd Kfz 250
Gepanzerte Aufklärungs Platoon: Panzerfaust SMG team, 6x Panzerfaust MG teams, Tank Hunter team, 4x Sd Kfz 251/1
Panther Platoon: 3x Panther
Panther Platoon: 3x Panther
Panzerspah Platoon: 2x Puma

Auto-attack mechanized, with Spearhead moves (or recon move) for everything. It should handle medium tank hordes and other mechanized lists very well. It should do okay against most other lists, as well, except sitzTigers or other super heavies.

PS. This is 1605, so if you can think of anything to do with those last 20 points, let me know!

Here's an infantry list that has good possibilities.

Fortress Italy.  Infantry platoon.

1st Fallschimjager  Fearless/Vets. But 1/2ic + combat/weapon platoons are motivation  2+.

Hq. 1st/2nd IC Panzerfaust SMG, 3 Panzerschrek

1st/2nd Platoons. Cmd Panzerfaust  SMG, 9xRifle/mg

Light gun Platoon.  Cmd SMG, 2x7.5 cm LG40 recoiled guns.

Antitank Platoon.  Cmd SMG,  4x7.5cm Pak 40s

Panzer Platoon. 5xPanzer IV Hs

Rocket Platoon. Cmd SMG,  Observer Rifle, Kubelwagon, 3x15cm NW41

Has good anti tank. Also good anti infantry.

@Karl: Great list, Dom Rapini loves that list. It's very good, But I think the 51st list has more potential. If it required 2 infantry lists, I'd be strongly tempted by it.

@ Zach: Another Good list, this list wasn't uncommon at the 2014 ETC, With only 4 players per team though, I'm not so certain of it.

@ Mike: I'm leaning towards an auto-attack mech list like this because of how it would pair with an Auto-attack US tank list. Even if some other mech lists might be better on an individual level Auto-attack is very useful for manipulating pairings. My only concern with the list is no smoke. You can get smoke by going with 4x Panther and 4x PzIV, downgrading the Pumas to 8 rads and thus can get 3x RT nebs. This does result in 5 platoons but KG can alleviate if needed(I think you can KG one of the 8rads from the recon as they are weapons plt), and you are auto attack anyhow so rarely affected by reserves even if you get stuck with them. Also 4 tank platoons will help for plt morale and vs Jumbos(more hits from more RoF in a plt.=less hits that "tub of fun" can absorb.)
